As Scripture states, God made mankind in His own image and likeness. And in doing so, He has designed each person to be a reflection of Himself, giving each life value and worth. This truth is so deeply portrayed in adoption and foster care. Adopting or fostering transracially can be a beautiful representation of God’s adoption of His people from all nations. It can also be a direct reflection of Heaven on earth, with people from all languages, tribes, and people groups coming together into His forever family.

While this can be a beautiful picture of the Lord’s redemption, it is still necessary to prepare for the process of becoming a transracial, multicultural family. This course is specifically designed to help foster and adoptive families to:\r\n

Understand what the Gospel says about race and adoption
Define the differences between race and culture
Be prepared for the joys and challenges of becoming a transracial & multicultural family
Assess whether their family is prepared to meet an adoptive child’s needs who will be foster or adopted transracially

Tana Dukes is a casework supervisor and social worker in the Lifeline South Carolina office. She supports caseworkers in her role as well as assesses prospective foster and adoptive parents. Tana is originally from Tallahassee, FL but now lives in Charleston, SC with her husband and 2 children. She earned both her Bachelors and Masters Degree from Florida State University in Social Work. Tana joined Lifeline on November 1, 2018 and loves being a part of the Lifeline team. She has always felt a calling to the realm of foster care and adoption and considers it a privilege to work within a ministry with those who share the same passion. Tana loves that she can talk about the hope available in Jesus Christ openly every day and connecting vulnerable children to the hope available in Jesus through foster and adoptive parents.

Beth Perez has been serving with Lifeline since 2011 and is currently the Director of Education & Equipping. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of Mobile in 2008 and her Master’s in Social Work from the University of Alabama in 2011. She has been a certified TBRI Practitioner since 2012. In her previous role, she had to joy of serving children, families, and in country partners as the Latin America Program Director with the international adoption team.

After living in Colombia for five years, she and her husband, Oscar Perez, are now living in the USA. She is grateful for the opportunity to have lived and worked internationally, and believes this has only fueled her growing passion to serve children all over the world. In her role, she feels most excited about having the opportunity to serve children by equipping and empowering local believers and partners to best care for the vulnerable in their own communities.
